Improvements To Your Waste and Recycling Facilities - Estates Recycling Programme Phase 5 engagement sessions registration

Overview

Waste and Recycling in Hackney

Most household waste can be recycled and the Council is aiming to recycle 31% of all waste by 2022. The recycling rate on our proposed estates is currently established as 11.6%, so we are working hard to make recycling easier for residents.

Estates have historically had a lower recycling rate performance in comparison to street level properties due to the following key factors:

  • An overcapacity for waste and low capacity for recycling

  • On average larger travel distances to the closest recycling bin

  • Waste chutes discourage the separation of recycling materials and place convenience over individual responsibility

The following estates have been identified for improvements to their waste and recycling facilities:

  • Kingsgate Estate

  • Regents Court Estate

  • Provost Estate

  • Lordship North Estate

  • Queen Elizabeth Close Estate

  • Frampton Park Estate

  • St. John’s Court Estate

  • Rowley Gardens Estate

What is proposed?

Hackney Council would like to make a number of changes to the waste facilities on your estate in order to help you recycle more. We are proposing the following:

  • Closure of waste chutes

  • Construction of new bin stores

  • Introduction of more recycling bins (to an equal ratio with the waste bins)

The new bin stores will contain both the waste, recycling and food bins and will be located within walking distance to block entrances and exits. This will enable residents to dispose of their waste and recycling at the same time.

Why your views matter

We want residents to help us shape future plans for the closure of chutes & building recycling facilities. With you sharing your views, we can learn the best way to implement these changes. A key method in which we can do this is via drop-in sessions with residents. We have scheduled these to happen at your nearest available community hall as well as online in order to give residents the an option to engage at a time and method that better suits them.

Face-to-Face Drop-in sessions

These face-to-face drop-in sessions will take place at your nearest available community hall.

Places may be limited for the face-to-face drop-in sessions due to room/hall capacity, so please register below to secure your place. Please note that participants that do not register will only be admitted if there is space available and priority will be given to those that have registered.

Online drop-in sessions

These sessions will be held over Zoom where we will be presenting the consultation proposals and answering questions from participants. Registration will close one day before the event. A link to Zoom will be sent to you on the day of the event.

If you plan to join a remote drop in session you must register with a valid email address so that we can provide you with the Zoom link to join ahead of the scheduled session.
