Ridley Road Market Commodity Regulations

Closed 5 Dec 2016

Opened 24 Oct 2016

Overview

The Council has been working on making improvements to the commodity process in Ridley Road Market. We have worked with the Ridley Road Market and Traders’ Association (RRMTA) to create a new and improved commodity process, which we hope will improve the market and allow traders to alter their licences to sell a better variety of commodities.

Why your views matter

We are seeking feedback from Ridley Road Market Traders only, for 6 weeks until 5 December 2016.

The main purpose for the consultation is to inform Ridley Road Market traders of the proposed changes, but we are also keen to get their views on how you think the process will work. There may be certain aspects that we have overlooked and the process might need changing in certain areas. The following changes have been suggested and will be consulted on:

Revised regulations

  1. We have revised the commodities and categories that the commodities fit into.
  2. We have set new maximum levels for each type of category in each zone of the market.
  3. We have described how we treat categories that are full/oversupplied on the market.
  4. We have rewritten the operation of categories and the positioning of traders to reflect the two/multiple pitch rules implemented in 2015.
  5. We have defined the position of traders whose categories change under the revised regulations.

Your feedback is very important to us and we are implementing this process to help improve the market.
