We asked

Before we applied to the HLF, we asked park users for their thoughts on what improvement they'd like to see at Springfield Park.

You said

You told us valuable information on what you thought of the park, how it could be better and what should be enhanced.

We did

We applied to The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for money to develop plans to improve and refurbish Springfield Park - these will include upgrade work on the buildings, footpaths, play equipment, gates, as well as help to preserve and enhance the park's magnificent landscape. We were successful in our application and the Development Phase of the Restoration project is now commencing.

Results updated 12 Nov 2015

The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) has recently announced that we have been successful in the first round of bidding for money to improve the borough's sweeping Springfield Park in the north of the borough.

We've developed our plans in partnership with Springfield Park User Group and they include refurbishment of all of the park's buildings - which date back to the mid-19th century - upgrade work on the park's footpaths, play equipment, gates, as well as help to preserve and enhance the park's magnificent landscape. Before we applied, we asked park users for their thoughts on what improvement they'd like to see and the results can be seen below

The HLF has pledged to provide nearly £3.2 million for these works, but we are required to submit a second-round application to secure it. The National Lottery affiliate will donate more than £180,000 for development of the bid. We have now got until June 2017 to develop our bid.

Overview

Residents are invited to feed into exciting restoration plans for Springfield Park.

With 14.73 hectares overlooking the Lea Valley, the park is one of the borough’s largest green spaces, and the Council is keen to restore some of its early 20th century features.

It plans to submit a bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund to allow it to restore and refurbish all of the park’s three houses - which date back to  early / mid 19th century. -  upgrade the park’s footpaths, play equipment, gates, railings and help to preserve its magnificent collection of trees.

Ahead of the application, the parks team wants to talk to as many park users as possible to explain the ambitious project and get their thoughts on what would improve the park. They will be holding a day of events, which will include talks from guest speakers about Springfield’s rich and varied heritage, as well as a cycle surgery, drawing workshop, face painting and free refreshments.

Cllr Jonathan McShane, Cabinet member for Health, Social Care and Culture said “We want to get an expert opinion from the people who know Springfield Park the best – the users. We know how well loved the park already is, so we’re really excited by the prospect of restoring, refurbishing and generally giving it a bit of TLC. We want everyone to understand the aims of this project and this should be a journey that involves everyone.”

Events will be taking place from 1 .00 -4.30 on Sunday 7 December in and around the White Lodge, Springfield Park.
