Bradbury Street weekend closure consultation

Closed 15 Jan 2017

Opened 9 Dec 2016

Overview

The Council is committed to making Hackney a vibrant and safe place for everyone living and working in the borough. Creating an environment that supports better access for pedestrians is part of the Council’s vision for Dalston Town Centre.

Bradbury Street is one of Hackney’s oldest shopping streets, boasting a number of unique independent businesses offering a mix of food, fashion and art.

In the past few years, it has seen an increase in vehicle traffic and irresponsible driving, with some drivers using it as a rat run for accessing Kingsland High Street. The Council has also recorded a number of complaints from businesses on Bradbury Street relating to the adverse impact unregulated parking is having on business.

The proposals

To tackle some of the problems experienced by pedestrians and businesses on Bradbury Street, and as part of our vision for Dalston Town Centre, we are proposing to restrict vehicle access to Bradbury Street on Saturdays and Sundays.

The road would be closed to vehicle traffic from 10am until 6pm on Saturdays and Sundays. Please see the attached map for an overview of the proposals.

If the changes are implemented, we will install signage to inform drivers and pedestrians of the restrictions.

For an overview of the proposals, please refer to the map in the 'related documents' section below.
