Making Hackney Safer for Women and Girls
Overview
Hackney Council is dedicated to making our borough a safer place for everyone. We're actively working on our next Hackney Strategy to tackle gender based violence and domestic abuse and want to hear from residents to help us with this. We are especially keen to hear from women and girls about their experiences and views on safety within relationships. Feedback from this survey will directly help us to tackle domestic abuse.
Here are the priorities of Hackney’s current Eliminating Violence Against Women and Girls Strategy:
- Prevention:
- We're working to ensure children and young people develop positive attitudes towards gender, help those harmed by violence to heal, raise awareness of support services, and make public and online spaces safer. We also want to address the underlying attitudes and behaviours that lead to violence.
- Supporting Victims and Survivors:
- Our goal is effective support for all women and girls facing domestic abuse and gender based violence from agencies in Hackney and through the criminal justice system. We want housing needs to be prioritised, for victims/survivors to receive support from their employers and to safeguarded women and girls from sexual exploitation.
- Holding Perpetrators Accountable:
- We're focusing on reducing harm through disrupting, deterring and sanctioning those who cause harm. This also includes encouraging behavioural change and ensuring employers hold perpetrators of VAWG and domestic abuse accountable.
- Building Trust and Confidence:
- We want Hackney to have seamless collaboration among all local agencies to tackle domestic abuse. We're committed to effective data sharing, a culture of learning with our partners and ensuring services support all victims and survivors of domestic abuse. We are committed to protecting victims/survivors from Black and Global Majority communities or with unresolved immigration status.
