Advocacy Consultation

Closed 29 Jul 2016

Opened 9 May 2016

Overview

Hackney Council’s Commissioning Team, Health & Community Services are currently reviewing Advocacy services in the Borough to determine if they have delivered a good service and to plan ahead to ensure that services meet the needs of people in Hackney and deliver high quality services in the future.

What is advocacy?

Advocacy in all its forms seeks to ensure that people, particularly those who are most vulnerable in society, are able to:

  • Have their voice heard on issues that are important to them.
  • Defend and safeguard their rights.
  • Have their views and wishes genuinely considered when decisions are being made about their lives.

Advocacy is a process of supporting and enabling people to:

  • Express their views and concerns.
  • Access information and services.
  • Defend and promote their rights and responsibilities.
  • Explore choices and options

Why your views matter

Hackney Council is consulting with service users and key stakeholders to gather views on advocacy services in the borough and to involve them in the planning of the shaping of future advocacy services.

We want to:

  • Give people a real say in the services we offer and how we provide them
  • Better adapt our services and processes to meet peoples’ individual needs
  • Make sure we provide good quality services that are friendly, fair, useful and provide good value
  • Make sure  our services and processes support people’s dignity and independence

The purpose of this consultation is to evaluate the following services:

- Independent Mental Health Advocacy

- Independent Mental Capacity Act Advocacy

- Independent complaints Advocacy services

- Care Act advocacy

- Community Advocacy: Advocacy for all

Feedback from this consultation will be fed into the review and considered for future contracts for advocacy services.
