What we’re doing
As the Ash Grove bus garage site is a redevelopment site in the Local Plan, Hackney Council’s planning team are creating new planning guidance for the land at Ash Grove bus garage and the transport depot next door on Andrews Road, called a Supplementary Planning Document.
The new Supplementary Planning Document will guide future planning applications on the site and inform what form any new development should take, shaped by input from the local community.
We’re also working with Transport for London to explore development options for Ash Grove, Clapton and Lea Bridge bus garages to electrify the bus fleet through Hackney and beyond.
Why we’re doing it
The aim of the bus garages programme is to reduce the negative impact of diesel buses on our neighbourhoods, reduce reliance on fossil fuels, noise pollution and significantly improve air quality across the borough.
As part of this, Ash Grove bus garage has been identified as a potential site for new development in Hackney’s Local Plan (a document guiding development in the borough) – which could create a greener, electric bus depot provided alongside new homes, commercial spaces and community facilities.
Preparing the supplementary planning document for the area will ensure any new development is shaped by up-to-date planning guidance informed by the local community.
How we’re doing it
Proposals to redevelop the bus garage are at a very early stage and will be further developed with TfL before community engagement takes place.
In the meantime, engagement has been taking place on the new Ash Grove supplementary planning document.
