Consultation is expected to begin in autumn 2023
What we’re doing
We’re developing ambitious plans to transform Hackney Museum so residents can engage with the museum’s collections and local histories in new and interesting ways.
Our plans include:
- a new permanent exhibition sharing stories of migration and settlement from prehistory to modern day
- a redeveloped community room
- an improved shop
- enhanced digital activities so more people can access Hackney’s rich histories
Why we’re doing it
The changes aim to encourage more local people to use this fantastic resource while complementing the wider investment in cultural facilities in this area, including improvements to Hackney Central Library which is based in the same building and Hackney Town Hall Square which is immediately outside.
How we’re doing it
We’ve secured funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund to develop these ambitious plans to transform and reimagine Hackney Museum.
The Museum is working with local communities to shape proposals for the new museum’s displays and services before final plans are submitted to the National Lottery Heritage Fund in 2024.
