What we’re doing
Since 2011, Hackney has led the way in building new council homes. Our innovative, in-house building programme is now followed by other councils across London and the UK. So far this has delivered more than 1,000 new homes, prioritising council homes for social rent.
At Frampton Park we’re making the most of land at four locations to build more than 100 much-needed new homes, with almost two-thirds of these genuinely affordable.
Why we’re doing it
Hackney is facing a severe shortage of genuinely affordable homes for local people. That’s why we’re doing everything we can to deliver new social housing prioritised for Hackney residents.
At Frampton Park, the new council homes we’re building are prioritised for council residents who already live on the estate but whose current home doesn’t meet their needs, such as due to overcrowding or medical reasons.
But it’s not just about housing. These projects can help bring new and improved facilities and public spaces for both new and existing residents to enjoy – with the council committing to ensure there is a net improvement in community facilities on the estate.
How we’re doing it
The first new residents moved into brand new Council-built homes on the Frampton Park Estate in 2021 at Taylor Court, Chatto Court and Wilmott Court.
These include 16 new Council homes for social rent, with 13 allocated to Frampton Park residents. The new homes have received a number of awards for their high–quality design, most recently a prestigious RIBA National Award 2023
In 2021, we were granted planning permission for more new homes on the estate that would replace the garages and old underground car park at Tradescant House and the site of Frampton Park Community Hall and cleaning depot with new homes that will include 23 Council homes for social rent alongside a wider investment into the estate.
We’re now looking to update the designs to meet the latest building regulations and design and sustainability standards before appointing a contractor to deliver them.
