What we’re doing

While less busy than Hackney Central station, Hackney Downs station is used by thousands of residents, visitors and commuters daily, and is one of the top 100 busiest stations in the UK.

That’s why we’re investing in public spaces around Hackney Downs station to create a better gateway into the area and respond to feedback about difficulty accessing the station.

Why we’re doing it

Despite the number of people using it and previous investment to link it with Hackney Central station, Hackney Downs station is still poorly connected to the wider Hackney Central area.

With proposals being developed to redesign Pembury Circus to make the junction safer, and plans to create a new green corridor through the town centre focused on Amhurst Road, there’s an opportunity to improve public spaces around the station to better link Hackney Downs to a more pedestrian-friendly town centre.  

How we’re doing it

We’re beginning to develop proposals to share with the community, and will keep local people updated on plans and opportunities to inform the changes.
