Supported Living Consultation

Closed 29 Jul 2016

Opened 9 May 2016

Overview

Hackney Council’s Commissioning Team, Health & Community Services are currently reviewing Supported Living services in the Borough to determine if they have delivered a good service and to plan ahead to ensure that services meet the needs of people in Hackney and deliver high quality services in the future.

What is Supported Living/Supporting People?

Supported living – also known as Supporting People - helps people to live independently and includes:

  • Managing money/ budgeting
  • Maintaining tenancies
  • Helping you to move-on to alternative housing based on your needs
  • Support into education, training and employment
  • Linking with community services
  • Improving health and well being
  • Promoting safety and security

People who benefit from supported living include older people, homeless people, people with mental health problems, people with learning disabilities, young people and victims of domestic violence

Different models for Supported Living services include:

  • Housing with support on site
  • Housing with visiting support (floating support)
  • Extra Care or Sheltered Housing

Why your views matter

Hackney Council is consulting with service users and key stakeholders to gather views on supported living services in the borough and to involve them in the planning of the shaping of future supported living schemes.

We want to:

  • Give people a real say in the services we offer and how we provide them
  • Better adapt our services and processes to meet peoples’ individual needs
  • Make sure we provide good quality services that are friendly, fair, useful and provide good value
  • Make sure our services and processes support people’s dignity and independence
