Broadway Market - Street food market trial

Overview

After the successful relaunch of a covid-secure Broadway Market, Hackney Council is continuously looking for ways to further support small businesses and stimulate the local economy. We asked for your feedback on a modified version of the market on an additional day to bring back your long-awaited street food traders who did not trade for the majority of 2020.
With the overwhelming feedback and support, we launched a 12 week trial period for a small food market separate to our Saturday's non-food market that will retain the same covid-safety measures, whilst bringing business back to the area and driving footfall to continue to drive the local economy during these difficult times.

Due to the large volume of support for both Friday and Sunday as the additional market date, we prepared to trial both days for the duration of 6 weeks each. The Friday section of the trial was undertaken in the first 6 weeks from 2 October to 6 November and was then followed by Sunday for the final 6 weeks from 15 November to 20 December.
However, due to the Government Lockdown and restrictions in November, we took the decision to suspend the trial after only trading for one Sunday. The Sunday trial will recommence from 23 of May to 20 June 2021 for the remaining 5 weeks.

During the trial, we will continue to operate a concurrent engagement survey for you to provide us with your views and a separate survey for the traders in relation to footfall, income, and transactional data to analyse at the end of the trial and make recommendations on what we could do to further support you, your local traders/businesses and the wider community with the local economy and employment opportunities.

All views and opinions are important to us, so please let us know your thoughts and share your feedback on how we are doing by participating in this brief survey to help us understand the views, needs, and requirements of the participants in which will support the Council in shaping any future proposals.

This engagement survey originally ran from 2 October 2020 to 15 November 2020. It will now be reopened for submissions from 23 May 2021 to 28 June 2021.
