Overview

Since the review of Zone B in 2011, a number of changes in parking design in and around the area as well as the introduction of sustainable transport initiatives and changes to the demographics of the zone have resulted in a number of roads experiencing high parking stress. Specifically, changes made by Tower Hamlets to the hours of operation in certain boundary streets has caused additional parking stress for permit holders including Boundary Street, Calvert Avenue and Redchurch Street. There have also been reports of noise nuisance due to vehicles parking within the Hackney boundary roads after the hours of operation have ended.

The Council has received a request from the Metropolitan Police to increase the current hours of operation in both Calvert Avenue and Boundary Street in order to alleviate this problem. This recommendation is supported by the Neighbourhood Improvement District, a cross-borough police team focussed on night-time economy problem solving and was initially requested by local residents at a meeting held earlier this year.

We are therefore giving residents and businesses on Boundary Street, Calvert Avenue, Redchurch Street and Shoreditch High Street the opportunity to change their hours of operation to Monday to Saturday 8.30am - midnight.

The Council has included roads nearby Boundary Street to prevent displacement parking outside the hours of operation and create a logical boundary within the zone. Please note that these changes will only apply to the sections of roads which fall within the boundaries of the London Borough of Hackney.
