Connecting Hoxton Design Consultation

Overview

Hackney Council is working with residents, community organisations and design teams to improve public spaces and community facilities in Hoxton.

The objectives for this work are:

  • Strengthening Hoxton’s identity and putting community at the heart of development
  • A thriving and affordable market street
  • Championing organisations and businesses delivering social value in Hoxton
  • Cherishing and supporting Hoxton’s young and old
  • Improving the pedestrian experience in Hoxton
  • Realising the potential of Hoxton’s green spaces

This work is grouped into three packages, each led by a different design team:

Package 1: Arden Estate Community Hall and Purcell Street Gardens – making the hall more welcoming for local events and improving the gardens as a green space for everyone.

Package 2: Hoxton Hall and Wilks Place – creating a more inviting and inclusive entrance to Hoxton Hall and exploring how Wilks Place can better support performances and community use.

Package 3: Area-wide projects – smaller improvements across Hoxton, such as new planting, safer crossings, greener streets and better public spaces around homes, schools and creative organisations.

As part of wider improvements to streets, green and public spaces around Hoxton, we’d like to hear your views on the emerging designs.

These projects are the outcome of ongoing engagement since March 2024 and this is an opportunity to check in and ensure they meet the expectations of the local community, those who work in or regularly visit the area.

Connecting Hoxton Community Day

Thank you to everyone who joined us at the Connecting Hoxton Community Day on 10 December 2025. It was good to speak with residents, businesses and community groups, and to hear early thoughts on the programme and the emerging designs.

The information boards displayed at the event are shown throughout this survey. They can also be viewed online here:

  • Projects to be completed in 2027, grouped into three packages and colour-coded on the map:
    • Package 1 (blue) – Arden Estate Community Hall and Purcell Street Gardens
    • Package 2 (red) – Hoxton Hall and Wilks Place
    • Package 3 (green) – a series of smaller, area-wide projects across Hoxton, such as street improvements, new planting and public space upgrades

The map is intended to help show how the different projects relate to one another spatially, how they connect across Hoxton, and where improvements are being delivered or explored as part of the wider programme.
