Connecting Hoxton Design Consultation

Closes 18 Jan 2026

PACKAGE 1 – Purcell Gardens

We’re looking at ways to improve Purcell Gardens to create a more welcoming and usable green space that benefits the whole community. Plans are being worked on to introduce enhanced play, biodiversity and community growing areas.

Our current proposals, based on feedback:

  • A new green buffer zone for Macbeth House
  • Improved play equipment
  • Increased seating
  • Spaces for growing food
  • Natural play opportunities could be added near the growing spaces so children can play close by
  • More trees
  • Improved barrier between Purcell Gardens and Purcell Street

1. Play Areas: What specific new play equipment do you think is needed for children? Which pieces of play equipment should we keep? Which pieces need fixing?
2. We were told that there are not enough benches and that they are not in the right places: where should they go?
3. Community Use: We've heard that you are interested in having a dedicated space for growing food. Should this be accessible to all or lockable?
4. Trees and Nature: How important is it to you to plant more trees?
5. What kinds of nature improvements (biodiversity) would you like to see?
6. Boundaries and Safety: Do you think more lighting is needed?
7. What are your thoughts on the proposed new barrier along Macbeth House and Purcell Street?
8. Should the fence there be kept or removed? We could replace it with a hedge or 'natural' barriers to cars like boulders.
