Housing Estates Wayfinding

Overview

This project is improving wayfinding across Hackney housing estates to help residents and visitors move around more confidently.

The Arden Estate has been selected as the first location where this new approach is being delivered. The project will introduce clearer signage, estate maps and improved information to help people find homes, community facilities, public transport and nearby destinations more easily.

By making routes easier to understand and strengthening connections between the estate and the wider Hoxton neighbourhood, the project will create a more welcoming, accessible and connected environment.

What is happening

We are introducing a new family of wayfinding features across the Arden Estate to make moving around easier and more intuitive.

These improvements include:

• new directional signs
• community information maps
• clearer walking routes
• improved links between the estate and surrounding streets
• better connections to nearby community facilities, transport and public spaces.

The new signs and maps will help residents and visitors identify building entrances, important destinations and key walking routes while making the estate feel better connected to the wider Hoxton neighbourhood.

Alongside the new directional signs, community maps will be installed to help people find homes, facilities and important local destinations.

• Hoxton Trust
• PEER Gallery and Khadija’s Garden
• Shoreditch Library
• Shoreditch Park
• Britannia Leisure Centre
• Hoxton Station
• Old Street Station
