Kings Crescent Phase 3 & 4- Temporary MUGA
Feedback updated 29 May 2025
We asked
We asked for feedback on a proposed temporary Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) on Murrain Road Play Street during construction works on the Kings Crescent Estate.
You said
The feedback and responses were mixed. Some residents supported a play space for children, while others raised concerns about noise, safety, underuse and location. Some suggested alternatives like Clissold Park or enhancing current play areas.
We did
We listened to feedback and have appointed a play consultant to work directly with young people on the estate to better understand their play needs and interests. This will inform revised designs and proposals for more appropriate and engaging play provision.
What Happens Next?
The play consultant will lead targeted engagement with young residents in the coming weeks. Based on their input, we will develop new proposals and designs alongside our architects for improved play facilities and update the community on next steps.
Overview
As you may know, Hackney Council is committed to building more homes. Kings Crescent is entering the 3rd and 4th phase of regeneration, where a further 219 homes are being built. Our main contractor, Mulalley, have begun conducting enabling works on site. As part of the site preparations and building works, the Council will need to demolish the ball-court next to Theobalds Court.
As a result, from November 2024 for the next 5 years, there will be no play facilities on the estate for young children. A brand-new multi-use games area (MUGA) will be provided in 2029 as part of the regeneration.
Why your views matter
This survey is about gathering views from residents and stakeholders on potentially providing replacement play facilities on the estate whilst the construction work takes place. No final decision has been made regarding temporary play provision.
The proposals include:
Option 1: Temporary Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA)
This option would provide a smaller temporary multi-use games area on Murrain Road, primarily to cater for children and young teens who are too young to go to Clissold Park to play independently. Other locations were considered but were deemed less suitable for safety reasons.
Option 2: No temporary play provision provided.
