Morris Blitz Court - Future Development Stage 2

Closes 18 May 2025

Opened 25 Apr 2025

Overview

Morris Blitz Court housing office site is one of 14 locations across Hackney that will make up a new programme to build around 400 new homes. 75% of the new homes across the programme, and 100% of the new homes at Morris Blitz Court, will be council homes for social rent and prioritised for local residents through our local lettings policy – which means current residents in the local area with established housing needs would get first preference for new Council rented homes. This is part of the Council’s commitment to start building, or supporting partners to build, 1,000 new homes for social rent by 2026 to help tackle the housing shortage and provide a high-quality, genuinely affordable home to those who need it.

The site of the former housing office at Morris Blitz Court has been identified as having the potential to accommodate new homes without the demolition of existing homes as well as wider improvements to the estate and neighbourhood.

Since summer 2022, we have been talking with local residents about proposals to replace the old housing office building on Morris Blitz Court with new homes, including at our two public events in June and October 2024.

We’re working with a design team and specialist consultants to prepare a planning application for the Morris Blitz Court housing office site, which we intend to submit in May 2025. Our team includes:

Architects: Archio
Landscape: Studio ONB
Cost Consultant: Bristow
Planning Consultant: HTA Planning
Multi Disciplinary Engineering Consultant: XCO2

Most of the design team have lived or worked in Hackney for many years. They have a broad mix of backgrounds and cultures and are excited by the opportunity to work with the community on these much-needed new homes and surrounding improvements.

Your feedback
Hackney Council’s Housing Regeneration & Delivery team wants to hear your views on the final proposals for Morris Blitz Court that will be submitted for planning submission in May 2025. Please read through the exhibition boards and complete the following survey questions and share any additional ideas and opinions in the free text boxes provided.

These plans have been developed from the conversations held to date, including the public engagement events held in June and October 2024.

These surveys accompany a public drop-in exhibition on Saturday 26 April 2026, from 11am until 2pm, to be held on the grass area outside the estate, facing Rectory Road.
