Overview
Hackney Council is continuing its housing programme to deliver around 400 new homes across 14 locations, including Parkside Estate.
Across the programme, 75% of the new homes will be Council homes for social rent prioritised for local residents with established housing needs. This is part of the Council’s commitment to start building, or supporting partners to build, 1,000 new homes for social rent by 2026 to help tackle the housing shortage and provide a high-quality, genuinely affordable home to those who need it.
The Parkside site has been identified as having the potential to accommodate new homes without the demolition of existing homes as well as wider improvements to the estate and neighbourhood.
In summer 2022, we talked with local residents about proposals to replace the car park, garage site and multi-use games area (MUGA) with new homes. Since then, the Council’s Cabinet has given us the go-ahead to work with a design team and residents to develop plans for the new homes on Parkside Estate and an initial public consultation was held in October 2024. The current consultation materials show the design process that has been undertaken thus far.
The design team and specialist consultants working on the Parkside project include the following:
Architects: Al-Jawad Pike
Landscape: Periscope
Cost Consultant: Bristow
Planning Consultant: HTA
Multi Disciplinary Engineering Consultant: XCO2
Most of the design team have lived or worked in Hackney for many years. They have a broad mix of backgrounds and cultures and are excited by the opportunity to work with the community on these much-needed new homes and surrounding improvements.
Why your views matter
Hackney Council’s Housing Regeneration & Delivery team would like to gather residents’ views on the external areas, shared spaces and public realm on the estate, including the play space, which will inform the design of the new homes and the surrounding neighbourhood.
