Overview

Thank you for your continued involvement in the redesign of Hackney Town Hall Square. Following the Hackney Central Showcase event on 27 July 2024 and previous surveys, we have collected valuable feedback that is guiding the future development of this important community space.

What We’ve Learned

The Hackney Town Centre Strategy (2023) has guided our design principles, emphasizing the creation of a safe, accessible, and inclusive public space that supports civic and cultural institutions while celebrating Hackney Central’s diversity.

We are committed to preserving the square’s existing features, enhancing green spaces with climate-resilient plants, improving lighting to highlight the architecture, and creating comfortable seating areas. Our aim is also to enhance pedestrian and cyclist pathways and design playful spaces for children.

Community feedback has highlighted the need for the square to serve as a dynamic space that accommodates both everyday use and special events. The importance of maintaining the square’s architectural heritage and green space has been a recurring theme throughout our engagement.

Introducing Our Third Survey

This is our third survey, building on your previous feedback about how you use the square and what it means to you. In this survey, we are presenting the emerging design priorities and seeking your detailed input.

Please review the design priorities and provide your feedback on the information boards, which will be available as a PDF below. Your input is crucial to ensuring the final design aligns with the needs and aspirations of our community.
