New Inn Yard Improvement Scheme

Overview

Help us improve New Inn Yard

This scheme is part of a new approach as to how we want the streets of Shoreditch to work - a long term vision for this thriving and dynamic area of London to create streets that are safe and easy to walk or cycle on, reducing vehicle dependence and improving air quality.

We would like to hear from you about existing issues and any ideas you have to improve New Inn Yard before we develop the plans for the scheme.

The approach includes a series of schemes intended to improve walking and cycling conditions within Shoreditch, and New Inn Yard is one of several coming forward that will contribute to making Shoreditch a more liveable and healthier place. These schemes will:

  • reduce serious levels of street stress and pollution
  • rebalance the street environment to make it easier and safer to walk and cycle
  • enhance the character of the area making it feel more secure for pedestrians whilst improving the walking experience.

How should we improve the area?

There is funding available to turn this street into somewhere that feels more vital and active, improves the pedestrian experience of walking along it and generally improves the character of the street.

Ways to potentially achieve this include:

  • Better signage for navigation and interest
  • Improved lighting
  • Providing interest through art installations
  • Greening the street
  • Creating ‘spill out’ spaces for active uses (such as cafes)
  • Using higher quality materials in pavements and road
  • Reducing ‘rat running’ traffic

A public drop in session has been arranged for you to talk to Council officers about issues or potential ideas to improve the New Inn Yard, details as below:

Venue: Hackney House, 25-27 Curtain Rd, EC2A 3LT.

Date: 20 September 2017, 6pm-9pm.
