A Community Garden for Mapledene Estate

Closed 4 Jun 2023

Opened 12 May 2023

Overview

The Mapledene Estate Tenants and Residents Association (TRA) would like to develop a resident led community garden at Mapledene Estate. The space proposed for the project is in the grassy area to the east end of the estate adjacent with Gayhurst Road. See it marked in yellow on the image below.

The proposal includes building 10-12 raised beds for growing food and flowers, and will welcome anyone living at Mapledene Estate to get involved. There will be tall planters for households with accessibility needs as well as lower raised beds. It includes a shed to store tools and some compost bins for garden waste. The proposed space would be away from any windows to ensure privacy.

In addition to these plans, the TRA are purchasing some new furniture for the walled garden for people to enjoy this summer.

The TRA hope these initiatives will help bring people together as part of their broader commitment to building community.
