Howl at the Moon Pocket Park
Overview
This project will create a new pocket park at the junction near the Howl at the Moon pub, transforming an area currently dominated by road space into a greener and more welcoming public space.
The proposals will introduce planting and seating while improving the experience for people walking through the area. The pocket park will provide somewhere to pause, meet or rest, helping to make this busy junction feel more attractive and enjoyable.

What is happening
We are developing proposals to create a new pocket park by reconfiguring part of the junction to provide more space for people.
The current proposals include:
- new planting to introduce more greenery into the street
- new seating where people can stop and rest
- changes to the layout of the junction to create a more pedestrian-friendly environment
- improvements that make the space feel more welcoming and attractive.
The detailed design is still being developed and may change as technical work and approvals progress.

What we heard from local people
Earlier engagement highlighted a desire for more green spaces and places where people can sit and spend time outdoors.
People also supported making streets feel less dominated by vehicles and improving underused spaces.
Residents also raised concerns about anti-social behaviour around the Howl at the Moon pub. During engagement, some suggested that planting and seating should be carefully located so the space remains welcoming while avoiding unintended impacts.
How this project responds
This project responds by creating a new public space that prioritises people over vehicles at an important local junction.
The introduction of planting and seating will make the area greener and provide somewhere for people to pause during everyday journeys.
The design will also take account of community feedback, ensuring the layout of planting and seating supports a safe, welcoming and well-used public space.
