Hoxton Garden Improvements

Overview

This project is improving Hoxton Gardens to make the space more accessible, welcoming and comfortable for a wider range of people.

Improvements include new and widened pathways, fencing, seating and entrance works. Together, these changes make it easier to move through the gardens, find places to rest and see and access the space from the surrounding streets.

In progress

New fencing, pathways, seating and entrance improvements have been completed at Hoxton Gardens. Further improvements, including new signage, are due to be installed.

What is happening

Improvement works have been carried out across Hoxton Gardens to make the space easier and more comfortable to use.

The completed works include:

  • new and improved pathways to support easier movement through the gardens
  • wider routes that provide more space for people using wheelchairs, mobility aids and pushchairs
  • new fencing that improves the visibility and appearance of the gardens
  • new and improved seating, providing more places to stop and rest
  • new surfacing at the entrance
  • a welcome mosaic marking the entrance to the gardens.

Further improvements, including new signage, are planned to help people identify and navigate the space more easily.

What we heard from local people

Local people told us that green spaces should be accessible and comfortable for everyone.

There was a particular desire for better pathways, more places to sit and rest and improvements that make the gardens easier to enter and move through.

People also highlighted the importance of inclusive design, ensuring that public spaces work for people with different mobility and access needs.

How this project responds

This project responds by improving access into and through Hoxton Gardens.

New and widened pathways make the gardens easier to navigate, while improved seating provides more opportunities for people to pause and rest.

The new fencing improves visibility into the gardens and helps create a clearer and more welcoming boundary. Entrance surfacing and the welcome mosaic also provide a stronger and more recognisable arrival point.

Together, these changes support wider and more inclusive use of the gardens by residents, visitors and people passing through the area.
