Hoxton-wide Identity and Wayfinding Strategy
Overview
This project brings together a series of identity and wayfinding improvements that will help create a clearer, more connected and recognisable Hoxton.
Rather than delivering a single physical improvement, the Hoxton-wide Identity and Wayfinding Strategy provides a coordinated framework for how signage, interpretation, naming and visual identity can work together across the neighbourhood.
The strategy is being developed alongside a number of identity and wayfinding projects that will be delivered across Hoxton during 2026 and beyond.
What is happening
We are developing a long-term strategy that will guide how identity and wayfinding are delivered across Hoxton.
The strategy will establish a consistent approach to signage, neighbourhood identity, interpretation, naming and visual design, helping people move more easily between streets, estates, parks, markets and other key destinations.
Rather than treating each improvement as a separate project, the strategy ensures that new signs, maps, public artwork and interpretation work together to create a more coherent experience across the neighbourhood.
It also provides a framework for future projects, helping ensure that investment across Hoxton contributes towards a shared identity and stronger sense of place.
What we heard from local people
Engagement carried out across the Connecting Hoxton programme highlighted a desire for Hoxton to have a stronger and more recognisable identity.
People told us they wanted clearer routes between key destinations, better signage, stronger links between public spaces, and improvements that celebrate Hoxton's history, culture and character.
Residents also wanted individual projects to feel connected as part of a wider vision for the neighbourhood, rather than isolated improvements.
How this project responds
This strategy responds by providing a coordinated approach to identity and wayfinding across Hoxton.
By establishing shared principles for signage, interpretation, naming and visual identity, it ensures that individual projects work together to improve navigation while reinforcing Hoxton's unique character.
Over time, this will help create a neighbourhood that is easier to move around, more welcoming to visitors and more reflective of the people, places and stories that make Hoxton distinctive.
