Ivy Street Play Street

Overview

This project creates a temporary play street on Ivy Street during School Street hours, providing a safer space for children to play and for families and neighbours to spend time outdoors.

By reducing vehicle movement at key times, the street can support informal play, walking, cycling and community use while creating a more welcoming environment around the school.

What is happening

During School Street hours, vehicle access to Ivy Street is restricted so that the road can be used more safely by children, families and people walking and cycling through the area.

The project supports:

• safer space for children to play outdoors
• reduced vehicle movement during busy school arrival and departure times
• more space for families and neighbours to meet and spend time together
• informal play and community activity
• a more welcoming and child-friendly street environment.

Proposals for the street also include improvements such as planters, entrance features, distinctive paving and movable furniture or barriers to help define the play street and create a stronger sense of arrival.
