Purcell Street – Neighbourhood Park

Overview

This project will transform an existing green space on Purcell Street into a neighbourhood park that is more welcoming, accessible and enjoyable for local people.

By improving planting, paths and places to sit, the project aims to create a greener public space that supports everyday use, encourages people to spend time outdoors and strengthens connections within the neighbourhood.

Upcoming

Plans are being developed to transform this space into a neighbourhood park.

What is happening

Proposals are being developed to improve the existing space and create a neighbourhood park that is attractive, accessible and easy to use.

The project will focus on:

  • enhancing planting to create a greener environment
  • improving or introducing pathways to make it easier for people to move through the space
  • providing seating where people can stop, rest and spend time outdoors
  • creating a welcoming public space that supports everyday use by residents and visitors.

The detailed design will continue to be developed as the project progresses.

Project timeline

Current stage

Design proposals are being developed for the neighbourhood park.

Next steps

The detailed design will be finalised ahead of construction.

Future delivery

Construction will begin once designs have been approved and funding and programme arrangements are confirmed.

What we heard from local people

Residents told us they would like to see better-quality green spaces that are welcoming, well maintained and easy to use.

People highlighted the importance of creating accessible routes through parks and open spaces, making it easier for everyone to move around the neighbourhood.

There was also strong support for providing more places to sit, relax and spend time outdoors.

How this project responds

This project responds by improving both the quality and accessibility of an existing green space.

Enhanced planting will make the park greener and more attractive, while improved pathways will support easier movement through the site.

New seating and landscape improvements will help create a neighbourhood park that supports everyday use, offering opportunities for people to rest, meet neighbours and enjoy spending time outdoors.

Supporting information

The proposals form part of the wider Connecting Hoxton programme, which aims to improve green spaces across the neighbourhood. Designs will continue to be refined as the project develops, with further updates shared as they become available.
