Hackney Downs Station Area Public Realm Improvements

Closes 25 Aug 2025

Opened 14 Jul 2025

Overview

Hackney Council is proposing changes to the streets and public spaces around Hackney Downs Station to make them safer, greener, and more accessible for everyone. These proposals respond to earlier feedback about safety concerns, poor public realm, and the need for more space to walk, cycle and access public transport. The work forms part of a wider programme of improvements across Hackney Central, made possible through £19 million in funding from Central Government.

We want to hear your views on the proposals before finalising the designs.

Below are four maps that show the proposed changes in more detail.

  • The first map shows the wider area, helping to put each of the changes in context.
  • The following three maps focus on the specific locations discussed in this consultation.
